A few weeks ago, a dear friend’s bachelorette party had me heading to the south for weekend in charming, Charleston, South Carolina. I knew little about this city, but each time I told someone where I was going, I got nothing but enthusiastic feedback about how beautiful, friendly and picturesque I would find the city to be.
And not a single person’s descriptions disappointed.
Our reason for the Charleston trip. My fabulous friend, Jen…the bride to be
A walkable city with this much boutique shopping, creative art galleries, delicious (if not lo-cal) cooking and fun nightlife; this was a perfect spot for a bachelorette weekend. And apparently we were not the only ones to think so. We couldn’t walk for 15 minutes without running into another bachelorette party. Needless to say there was a festive atmosphere in the air in that city and with perfect spring weather, I couldn’t find a reason to complain.
Though it often felt like the weekend was planned around eating and drinking (and don’t get me wrong…that’s a good thing) we did manage to see a good bit of the central city by walking nearly everywhere we wanted to go. One exception was a fun ride in a rickshaw/bicycle taxi which we had to take so as not to be late for our dinner reservation. So between the fried green tomatoes, syrupy waffles, shrimp and grits and copious cocktails, we still managed not to balloon out of control by exploring this city on foot.
But as I often do, I’ll let these pictures show you a bit of what Charleston is about.
One popular way to see the city – horse…or is that a mule…drawn carriage
Brightly Colored Flower boxes
I was fascinated by the beautiful doors on the homes in Charleston. From the front, they appeared to lead directly into the house, but from the side you could see it just lead to an open porch. I loved the asthetics, though wondered if any would-be robbers were fooled by the “locked door”.
Loved the gas lamps that lit the way along the streets of Charleston

Welcome
If only I had a book to leave other than the eBook I was reading
