Uh oh – the end is in sight…

Posted in Beirut| Lebanon

As my time here in Lebanon comes closer and closer to the end, I can feel myself getting a bit down. I think its a combo of going back to the “real world” and also leaving behind new friends and new found places. I had a discussion with someone last night about how you fall in love with a country when you’re there on vacation – being the new exciting person in town and seeing everything for the first time. Who knows – maybe if I spent more time here, I’d grow used to the beautiful scenery and my “newness” would wear off. I’d have to learn to drive and the traffic would prove way more stressful than the cultural experience I see it as today. The frustration of not understanding the language and the small town feel might become suffocating.

But maybe I’m just trying to talk myself out of missing this place. It could be like London where after living there for a year and suffering through a job which gave me more than a few grey hairs, I still loved it for all of its beauty and its inconveniences. I might return time and time again and discover new people and places that keep me energized. I may find a job here and make this my new home. A little far fetched, but who knows? What I do know is that Saturday will be a tough day and I will shed more than a tear or two. But for now – there’s still so much to see! So turning off the laptop and going out to find my new experience of the day…
