Looking Back and Looking Forward (Pt. 1)

Happy New Year – Happy 2015 – Happy time to reset your goals/visions/intentions/plans or hell, just the time to chill out and do nothing. Whatever the new year means to you, I hope you enjoy it. For me it is the annual time for me to look back at what I accomplished over the past year (in terms of travel) and look forward to what I want to accomplish in 2015.

Just about 1 year ago, I wrote about my 2014 goals and what I hoped to accomplish over the year.  How did I do?  Well, let’s just say this is an opportunity for me to be the Glass Half Full girl rather than the Glass Half Empty girl.  Out of my 14 Plans for 2014, I accomplished half of them (though one required a slight adjustment, which I’ll allow).

So here’s what I did accomplish in the world of travel in 2014:

#2 Play Capoeira on at least two continents – North America and Asia.  Some may think North America may be cheating a bit since I live here, but hey – its still 2 continents.  But to really make it a challenge, for 2015, I’ll up the ante to two continents BESIDES of North America.

#4 I got to check eating at a Michelin starred restaurant off my list thanks to my dear friend Pam who took me out to eat at Angler, in London.

#5 I attained my goal of attending a travel blogger’s conference by hitting up the first Women in Travel Summit in Chicago last year.

#6 – This is the one I had to adjust a bit. While I did not get my hands on a Briggs & Riley suitcase, I did welcome two pieces of lovely Tumi luggage into my collection.  While I still do love B & R, I have to say that Tumi has now taken the top spot.

#7 Well, you’re looking at it…after 5 years with the same basic style, I decided to put some attention towards a complete blog make over.

#9 I was introduced to the world of Formula 1 racing and I have no doubt that F1 will be a consistent goal on all future New Year Plans lists.

#11 I slightly overshot on this goal.  Instead of 2, I got 3 new map pins this year – Mexico City in January, Singapore in September and Krakow over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Not bad, Nailah. Not bad.

There were two goals which if I’d just paid a little more attention, I’m sure I could have checked off this past year.  I definitely should have seen the sun rise in two foreign countries (#10 on the list). In fact I’m pretty sure I saw the sky get lighter in both Singapore and Krakow, but that was due to jet lag and late night frivolity, respectively. It was not based on me making a specific action to get up and watch the sun rise so I won’t count that. This one is staying on the list for next year because its definitely achievable. And as for #8, well paying attention to my passport would have allowed me to avoid that tragic mistake. I’m still reeling from that World Cup debacle (and I’m not talking about the Brazil – Germany match).

As for the rest of my 2014 plans, well, I fell a bit short, but I’m OK with it and don’t be shocked if you see the missed goals resurrected on my 15 for 2015 plans coming soon.  The world is still spinning, the flights are still flying, passports are still being stamped and I will continue my travel quest to see and do as much as I can on this wonderful planet because, well…you know… There’s SO Much to See!

You did so much for this year, and I think North America counts too. I’m working on my list now, looking forward to seeing yours.
