Galveston in Photos

Who can resist the allure of a large porch that wraps around a beautiful Victorian era home? I know I can’t. I  had to keep reminding myself not to just walk up to some stranger’s home in Galveston, Texas and sit down in an inviting rocking chair.  (I have to imagine I’m not the only one who envisions doing this, right?).

I admit to having a strong bias towards international travel and if my trip does not require me to pack my passport, I seriously feel cheated.  But sometimes its just good to go home, even if that home is in the United States and I’ve never been to that “home” before.

For me home is now just outside of Galveston, TX where my mother moved just about the time I took off on my Round the World trip this year. So even though I’ve never spent more that 4 hours in Galveston, its now home because home is where mom is. And while Galveston is not Paris or Rome, this seaside city does have its charms, from its beautiful homes to its laid-back daily pace.  I don’t mind calling it home … until mom moves again. Can I suggest Rio de Janeiro next time, mom?

Home to see mom.

Majestic old home in Galveston

The following two sculptures were carved from trees damaged during Hurricane Ike in 2008. The trees are still rooted in their original position, but now have been turned into works of art.

The plaque to the left of the door shows how high the waters rose during Hurricane Ike in 2008

I prefer hitching posts to parking meters any day

Look closely – I love the patterns on the eaves of this house

I swear I could hear that second floor porch calling to me.

Galveston Texas seems like a very interesting and visually appealing place. I have been to Dallas and Fort Worth, and that kind of soiled my Texas experience. I am a coastal type of individual, this place speaks to me more. You seem like a very interesting young lady, as I you were bitten my the travel blog. Please continue to live it up mi amiga.

Hey! Thanks for stopping by. Galveston seemed to be a very chill, relaxing place, though I’m glad I went in November when the weather was warm and the skies clear – not sure if I would have been as happy in the heat & humidity of summer! Looks like you’ve been in staying in Panama? I have yet to get there…its on the list. Great music video on your site, by the way!

wow thanx for checking it out. Panama is great I need to actually post the really nice parts of it. I was living in the bad area so thats really all I posted, and I have been getting negative comments on my Facebook by Panamanians living in the states, saying that Im making their country seem like its all bad, and in all fairness they have a point. Where are you staying now? Jetsetter

I’m in L.A. dreaming of my next destination. I’ll keep an eye on your site to see more pictures of Panama from both sides of the tracks.
