Not your typical Carnaval shot.

This picture was taken in a small town called Beberibe in the Brazilian state of Ceara. No huge samba parades in this town – just a big town square where people hang out, drink and listen to (not so great) music. One tradition I was NOT aware of is the Flour Attacks. I’m sure there’s an official term for that, but I have’t figured it out yet. All I know is that you’re walking along through crowds of people and then all of a sudden there’s a mischievous looking 18 year old raising his hand over his head and poof, you’re covered in a flour bomb. Followed by another and another and another until you’re covered head to toe. Some of the handfulls thrown at close range actually kind of hurt. Yikes! But still I got off easy. I managed to avoid the guys who were a little better armed. They basically tried to make a whole cake out of you by adding butter, water and chocolate sauce to the mix!
